DomainKeys Identified Mail
Learn more about DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) and in what way this feature may help your business.
DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is a validation system used to verify that an email message has been sent by an authorized individual or email server. A digital signature is added to the email’s header by using a private encryption key. When the message is received, a public key that is available in the global Domain Name System is used to check who exactly sent it and whether its content has been changed in some way. The prime job of DomainKeys Identified Mail is to hinder the widely spread scam and spam emails, as it makes it impossible to forge an email address. If a message is sent from an email address claiming to belong to your bank or financial institution, for instance, but the signature doesn’t match, you will either not receive the email message at all, or you will receive it with a warning alert that most probably it is not an authentic one. It depends on email providers what exactly will happen with an email message that fails to pass the signature test. DKIM will also offer you an additional protection layer when you communicate with your business allies, for instance, since they can see that all the emails that you exchange are genuine and haven’t been tampered with on their way.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Web Hosting
If you get any of the
web hosting that we’re offering, the DomainKeys Identified Mail functionality will be enabled by default for any domain name that you add to your web hosting account, so you won’t have to set up any records or to activate anything manually. When a domain is added in the Hosted Domains section of our custom-built Hepsia Control Panel using our MX and NS resource records (so that the emails associated with this domain name will be handled by our cloud web hosting platform), a private encryption key will be generated right away on our email servers and a TXT record with a public key will be sent to the global DNS system. All email addresses created with this domain name will be protected by DomainKeys Identified Mail, so if you send out emails such as periodic newsletters, they will reach their target audience and the receivers will be sure that the messages are legitimate, since the DomainKeys Identified Mail functionality makes it impossible for unsolicited individuals to spoof your addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers
The DomainKeys Identified Mail feature is included by default with any domain name that is added to a
semi-dedicated server account with us. It should also use our name servers, so that its DNS resource records are managed by our system. The latter makes it possible for a special TXT record to be created, which is actually the public key that confirms if a particular message is genuine or not. This record is set up once a domain is added to a semi-dedicated account through the Hepsia Control Panel and at the same time, a private key is generated on our mail servers. If you make use of our web and email hosting services, your emails will always reach their target destination and you won’t have to worry about unauthorized persons forging your addresses for scamming or spamming purposes, which is something rather important in case you use email messages to get in touch with your business associates.
